HALINÁ Modern Filipino Kitchen + Bar: A Kamayan Feast Built for the Table

Halina is a modern Filipino kitchen and bar on East Hastings Street in Vancouver, and its Kamayan Feast Box is built for family gatherings: a shared Filipino spread packed into one box. The dining room is just as social, with platters for three or four and a menu that rewards ordering for the whole table.

Eating the Kamayan Way

Kamayan comes from kamay, the Filipino word for hand, and it means eating with your hands from a shared spread. The modern boodle fight traces back to the Philippine military in the early 1900s, when officers and soldiers ate side by side from long tables lined with banana leaves.

Halina, founded by four friends who started out with a takeout counter called Bigboy’s Chigs To-Go, built its Feast Box around that tradition: reimagined for today and made to go.

What Is in the Feast Box

The box is lined with banana leaves and packed to be opened in the middle of the table. Alongside the two headliners below come four sweet and tangy Slamdunk chicken wings, four pork lumpia (Filipino spring rolls) and jasmine rice.
